City College of New York
The City College of New York is a city college in New York City. Located on the edge of Harlem, it has over 16,000 students and is part of the City University of New York system. Its founders established the college in 1847 with the goal of providing free education for poor children. Today, it ranks in the top 20 of the rankings for education quality and affordability. The college’s physics department has produced three Nobel laureates.
City College has a high ranking for academic quality and social mobility. In fact, it ranked #17 in its 2021 ranking. In addition, the university jumped from 87th place to 72nd in the Best Public Schools list. Despite this jump, the college’s overall ranking remains relatively stable, as it has climbed from #176 in 2021 to #151 this year. Lehman College
The High School Of American Studies at Lehman College ranks in the top 5% of schools in the state of New York for reading and math proficiency. This is higher than the state average of 54% for both disciplines. The college’s student-teacher ratio is higher than the average of 12 students per teacher.
Lehman has an average student-faculty ratio of 18:1. The school has a high freshman retention rate of 80%. Its total undergraduate enrollment is 12,375. It is a member of the NCAA III. More than 70% of Lehman’s students receive need-based financial aid. On average, they receive $9,637 in grants and scholarships.
Students can earn a Bachelor’s degree from Lehman College or pursue their Master’s degree. The library is run by a 19-member board of trustees appointed by the mayor of New York City and the Borough President of Queens. It receives funding through federal and state grants. Its employees earn an average salary of $34,011 annually, with some making as much as $61,000. It also focuses on diversity, with 59% of employees being women and 41% of them men.
The Queens Library also offers a variety of after-school programs for children and teens. STACKS, which is a core-curriculum-based after-school program, helps children and teens complete their homework. The program is supervised by a children’s librarian. STACKS activities complement the school’s curriculum, and let students use QPL resources to complete their homework assignments.
Queens University
Queens University of New York is a public university located in Queens, New York. Its enrollment is large, and the diversity of its student body reflects that of its home borough. More than a third of its undergraduates are from other countries, and they speak more than 87 languages. In addition, two-thirds of students are ethnic minorities, and sixty percent of students are eligible for need-based aid. Students also have access to 12 institutes and research centers, most of which are focused on the community.
Queens University is located on a hill, which is about 100 feet high, but not on the highest point in Queens. The campus is home to six original Spanish-style buildings, including the landmark Jefferson Hall, which was completed in 1907.
