The New York University Summer Arts Intensive
The New York University Summer Arts Intensive is an immersive experience that combines rigorous studio classes, field trips to art museums and other cultural sites, and opportunities to explore the NYU art department and the creative community. This program provides close attention to a small group of young artists through challenging and unique studio projects, and builds a community that extends beyond the summer.
This four-week summer program is designed for high school students who are interested in taking art courses to build their portfolios or enhance their creative skills. Participants in the course are immersed in art classes led by college-level faculty and professional artists and learn about the world of contemporary art.
In addition to the coursework, students attend cultural events and lectures by NYU faculty and art professionals. The course also includes a student exhibition.
Students ages 15 and older can take advanced painting and drawing courses as well as specialization classes in architecture, concept art, digital media, graphic design, and printmaking. Scholarships are available.
Barnard College’s one-of-a-kind dance-centered pre-college summer arts program focuses on four different perspectives of the dance world: as an artist, as a student, as a dancer, and as a member of the audience. Students will attend performances in theater, ballet, and modern dance to learn from the artists who bring these styles to life.
BPC Parks Artist Educators Sara Wolfe and Andrea Burgay will lead the class. Both are professional artists and have previously taught Art Portfolio Development at the Summer Intensive for Teens.
Battery Park City is a beautiful city in which to create. It is also home to a number of excellent art institutions, including the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Lower East Side Print Shop.
Located in southern Vermont, The Putney School is an educational arts center for teens that offers technology-free workshops in a variety of mediums. Its staff encourages process over product and believes in the importance of supporting and fostering creativity.
The Art Portfolio Development Summer Intensive for Teens is a 4-week course for students in grades 7-12. Students are expected to document work in an online application and provide a portfolio of up to 10-20 images that they feel represent their best work. This does not have to be finished, but it does need to show a strong visual representation of their skills and interests.
The College of Staten Island
The College of Staten Island is a four-year, senior college of the City University of New York, providing exceptional opportunities to students. It offers bachelor’s, associate’s and master’s degrees as well as certificate and continuing education programs. CSI is one of 11 senior colleges, seven community colleges and seven graduate, honours and professional schools within the University.

Our courses explore all aspects of the art world, from traditional studio practices to contemporary theories and criticism.
Our BA in Art is an academic degree that includes two concentrations: Studio Art and Photography. Upon completion of the degree, you will have taken courses that satisfy both Art and General Education requirements in Drawing, Painting, Printmaking and Sculpture.
All students pursuing the Art Bachelor of Arts degree are required to complete two pre-major requirements: ART 120 Introductory Drawing and 2 art history courses. Additionally, all students must take PHO 101* Introductory Photography with a 3.0 GPA.
The Art Department at CSI provides an academic and creative environment that fosters the development of skills in drawing, painting, printmaking and sculpture, as well as an understanding of art history and the liberal arts. The Department also prepares students for a career in art by encouraging them to make a strong personal contribution to their artistic development.
