Garden City High School is a comprehensive public high school. It offers a wide range of academic programs, including Advanced Placement courses.
It also has a large choir program, with mixed, men’s, and show choirs. Students participate in regional and state solo and ensemble competitions.

The GCHS art department strives to foster a society that values the arts as part of a universal education and an essential expression of the human experience. The art program is also dedicated to providing new challenges for students and connecting their classroom experiences with real-world work in the community.
Located in western Kansas, Garden City has a diverse student population. The district serves more than 35 languages or dialects and has a strong English Language Learner population. Its rural location means that many students move between schools throughout the year. As a result, the school district had to find a way to serve this transient student population and reduce paper use at the same time.
As a solution, the district turned to Showbie. Using the free educational technology platform, teachers were able to upload the EngageNY math curriculum (also known as Eureka Math) and search by grade level, topic or common core standard. The result has been a significant reduction in the amount of paper used across the school district.
The Garden City High School campus includes nearly eleven green acres that offer boundless opportunities for physical development and hands-on environmental learning. GCHS also has a state-of-the-art greenhouse and a science lab that supports hands-on discovery.
The GCHS sports teams compete in Class 6A, the largest classification in the Kansas State High School Activities Association. The Buffaloes play in the western athletic conference and are referred to as “The Gang of Gold”. GCHS is home to many different sports programs including football, soccer, baseball, track and field, wrestling, intramural basketball and volleyball. The school also boasts a golf course, gymnasium, tennis courts and baseball stadium.
Careers
Garden City is a suburban village in Long Island, 18 miles from Manhattan. Its tree-lined streets and myriad activities for children make it a popular choice for families with school-aged kids.
